Museum Saturday

The Andersons wanted to see some of the museums in the south of the city so we took this opportunity to go with them.  We went first to the Frida Kahlo museum in Coyacan.  She was Diego Rivera's wife and a well-respected artist.  She was also an out-and-out communist who helped hide Leon Trotsky when he fell out of favor with the Russians until he was murdered in Mexico City.  The museum was in her house which she inherited from her parents.  It is very large, very blue with amazing courtyards.  Her art is interesting but not necessarily my cup of tea.  She was in a bus accident in her 20's and suffered abdominal trauma - lost her ability to have children which haunted her - and lost the function of her leg which ultimately had to be amputated.  She died in the early 50's, still very much a communist.  We next went to a museum designed by Diego Rivera - also a communist.  It housed his personal collection of pre-Columbian artifacts and some murals he painted and worked on.  He was commissioned to paint a mural in the Rockefeller Center in NYC but he insisted on placing a figure of Lenin as the focal point of the mural.  It was painted over but Rockefeller still paid him the agreed upon amount.  Some drawings of the mural are in the museum.  We then drove through the middle of Mexico City on a slow road but reached Tony Roma's rib restaurant and enjoyed a good serving of ribs.  That evening we watched an episode of Miss Fisher's murder mysteries and called it a night.

Sun March 20
As usual I spent the morning on my report - church was great and we had the Griffins and Hackings over for dinner.  We were able to talk to many of our kids on Face time.  We had to start getting ready for the last marathon mission tour to Villahermosa.
