I was asked to accompany an elder who had a psychotic episode in the mission to his home in Denver. His dad had come unexpectedly (a non member) and was going to fly home with us.
We started the transport at 9 am - the elder and his dad showed up with the mission president and assistants and I could tell the elder was a little hyper. We got checked in but had over 2 hours until the flight. We made it through security and found immigration to get his papers taken care of. We then sat down but the elder could not sit still. I had some Haldol drops I gave him and finally he took 2 mg Klonipin then 2 mg of Risperdal. He kept kneeling down at his chair to pray. He contacted about 15 people in the waiting area to tell them a little about the church. We boarded and the meds finally started kicking in -I really worried that he would be trying to walk up and down the aisle in the plane. We arrived in Houston without incident but it took us over an hour to make it through customs. We were placed in the TSA precheck line but pulled out into a shorter line. We were then chosen to have all of our luggage checked and a complete pat down. I thought that we were going to miss our flight so they called an electric car to race us to our gate. The dad was originally on a later flight but we got him on standby and he made it on the flight. Whew. We made it to Denver without incident - prayers were answered. I had a lovely night in Denver - beautiful city. Sara and Jason's home is a little small but they are making due until his lease is up and they can find something more for a family and not for a bachelor. and Clint Holmes we miss you!!

Tuesday
I had to get up at 4:30 to make my flight. I got in to Mexico City about 20 minutes early and set a record getting through customs. (That never happens.) I called Peg to come get me but she was still home so I knew that I had at least 40 minutes. I was hungry so I went to the Carl's Jr. I have never had a fish sandwich there but for some reason ordered it - they said they were out of fish and something in my head said go somewhere else so I did (very uncharacteristic for me - I generally would have had the hamburger.) Next to it was a Starbuck's with some sandwiches but they did not look appetizing. I walked the length of the terminal and found some sit down restaurants but didn't think I would have the time. I walked past an OXXO (convenience store) but for some reason my gaze fixed on a Seven Eleven store - I never go there. I walked over to it and it had a very narrow entrance and 3 men were there restocking the shelves. They finally moved and I went in - there really wasn't anything but I thought maybe I could just buy a fruit juice or something and that would do - it was then I heard a frantic voice call out "Elder!" A young missionary was at the back of the store trying to use a phone. He was from Santiago City North mission and had missed his connection to his home in Reynosa Mexico (near the Texas border.) On the bottom of his ticket was something about a flight to Costa Rica 2 days later and when he went to the Aereo Mexico desk to get it changed they wanted him to pay for the trip to Costa Rica. He was frantic and didn't know what to do. He asked if I had an international phone and I do. We tried to call travel in Salt Lake City but they said all the flights were made in the area offices in Santiago Chile. We finally got a hold of the sister in Chile that made the flights and she found a flight to Reynosa at 9 in the evening (this was about 3:30.) I gave the Elder 200 pesos to get something to eat and he was starving and grateful. This poor elder was in an impossible situation. Because of the erroneous flight information on the bottom of his ticket the airlines would do nothing for him until he paid for the trip to Costa Rica. He had no money and no way to contact anyone. He might have had to live in the airport for days. He told me that before he went into the seven eleven store he had prayed that the Lord would send someone, an angel, to save him. I was humbled that the Lord would use me as his angel by making me a picky eater and sending me to a really trashy looking seven eleven store to buy something.
PS. I had a nice quiet 30 hours! I had to make FHE treats and get them over to the place where we hold FHE. All the Senior couples were so nice to include and help me! I was invited to dinner at the Griffins! No need to worry when Greg is gone - I am never alone!!
