THOUGHT: "GOD ALWAYS GIVES HIS BEST
TO THOSE WHO LEAVE THE CHOICE WITH HIM!"
Mom says I have to do better or I will get fired at blogging. Saturday morning I slept in until 7 am -way to go. I was tired from all of my traveling. I did get a spectacular view of Pico de Orizaba which I posted on Facebook - almost 19,000 ft (about 11,000 feet under our airplane.) I had a lot of computer work and phone calls to catch up on and Peg had a leisurely morning and burnt the pancakes (tried a new grill - did not work out.) We decided to go to the Merced (biggest market in one of the biggest cities in the world. Three couples rode a bus to the metro while the Andersons (he has a bad back) took a taxi and met us there. We took the subway to the merced. It is hard to imagine what this is and we only saw about a 10th of it. It is indoors with tiny aisles about every 20 feet. You see vendor after vendor of the same things such as shoes, clothing, kitchen items, artificial flowers. It goes on and on with floods of people trying to go both ways on an aisle that is definitely one way only. We got a silicon mat to roll out cookies, rolls etc. We got a cupcake tin. One of the elders kept asking for the CD's or DVD's and they kept sending him to the pornography stores - disgusting. Interesting note - all of the mannequins modeling jeans were turned with their bottoms facing us. I guess you might call it backwards fashion. Maybe the women here want to see what their bottoms will look like in the jeans. We finally wore out and took the metro back to the Zona Rosa (the upscale part of downtown) and we ate at Chilli's. We then came back and played Phase 10 after dinner with the Rices. Of course I had phone calls all day. Sunday started early. It was fast Sunday. It is interesting that there is never a pause in our testimony meetings. A blind gentleman who was baptized the week we came bore his testimony of how his life had changed and how happy he is now to be a member of the church. The testimonies are always heart felt, never travel logs (they never go anywhere) and are not preachy. This is a very humble people, grateful for all of the Lord's blessings. I had to teach the priesthood lesson and chose to talk on the Proclamation on the family and the new announcement. Before I taught a man who was baptized 3 weeks ago was ordained a Priest and he then ordained his son a teacher - it was very powerful. He is very bright and will be a great addition to the ward. We had one set of elders and 2 sets of sisters today (one set was the training sisters - equivalent to the assistants over the sisters.) One of them had turned her ankle and was very concerned about not being able to go out and do splits with the sisters. The missionaries in our ward have been baptizing almost weekly. We will be going back to English church - a judge from the 9th circuit court in San Francisco is speaking in a combined Priesthood/RS meeting - he is here invited by the Mexican government for their 100th celebration of their constitution. He is a member of the church but knowing how liberal the 9th circuit court is I am sure he will be way left of me. We have all of the couples coming to our apartment for dinner - we do that every fast Sunday. My guess is that there will be no Super Bowl - not that much interest.
This is Peg! I didn't take any more pics of the Merced. Pics nor words can describe this place! Come down here and I will personally take you there! You will love it!!
After the Merced, we got off the Metro on Reforma and walked along this nice closed road that they have like Gateway! Lots of shops and places to eat! This is a hotel! |
We are with the Toblers, Rices and Andersons (not in pic) walking along trying to figure out where to eat! |
Another big fancy hotel! Pretty building! |
