THOUGHT: "WHAT WE ACHIEVE INWARDLY - WILL CHANGE OUTER REALITY!'
WOW! We made it 100 days! I can't say time has flown by, but I am in a much better place now that I am Mexican! Watch out when I am driving! I don't let anyone in any more! No one ever lets me in and I am tired of the abuse on those roads! That's fair warning! AND I will honk at you too!
We got up early this morning and drove to Oaxaca! We stopped in Puebla to walk around the zocolo (center square) see the big cathedral there and bought a few things at the Talavera store! Talavera is the beautiful ceramic stuff that is famous for Puebla! I took a pic of the store so if there is anything you want, let me know! Everyone needs something Talavera!
We then drove to Tehuacan. We need to find a hospital that the missionaries can go to in this town, otherwise it is a 2 hour drive (at least) to Puebla for medical care! Greg had set up an appointment with the director of this hospital so we were met with the red carpet treatment! I hope Scot treats his prospective patients like this! The hospital was built in the 50's, It is run by carmalite nuns! We didn't see any nuns today! The guy that showed us around was very nice and tried so hard to make a good impression! It has about 27 patient rooms in all! They are trying to put in an elevator right now! Up to this point they have been using the big ramp (and I mean big) to wheel the patients up and down from floor to floor! Can you just see them pushing a bed or gurney down the ramp in an emergency! That would kill them for sure! I wanted to take pics really bad, but I was afraid of offending them! We took a pic of the outside of the place! They invited us to lunch in the doctors cafeteria. This consisted of one table with 8 chairs around it! They served us a cream of vegetable soup, Greg thinks a fish, I think chicken, beat to a thin slice, breaded and fried up! Who really knows! And dry chocolate cake for dessert! The directors and human resource people had the black mark in their foreheads for Ash Wednesday. One of the doctors asked Greg to say a blessing on the food! We had to teach them about the Word of Wisdom when they brought us coffee! Good times! Great people! The missionaries will be well taken care of at this place!
Then we were off to Oaxaca! We took pics along the way! We got lost getting into town! I know this sounds unusual but it really happened!!!!!HAHA! The Mission president and wife live across the street and up a little from the Oaxaca Temple! We were so excited to go to the Temple - not, it was closed for cleaning! Our dumb luck! We stopped at the only restaurant we could find to eat since the President and wife were not getting home from zone conferences until late!
We met the Madsens finally! President Madsen grew up on 20th east over by Engh Floral when it was still there! He is a Titan! They have been living in Orem for a long time now! Very nice people as they all are! Their mission house was very nice as well! We visited for awhile and plopped into bed, exhausted. The trip took us 10 hours to get here today with the stops and driving!
Buenas noche!
