Final days with Jeff and Rachel

THOUGHT:  "WHAT LIES BEHIND YOU AND WHAT LIES IN FRONT OF YOU, PALES IN
COMPARISON TO WHAT LIES INSIDE OF YOU."     Ralph Waldo Emerson

Saturday Feb 27
We slept in a little and caught the bus to the metro about 10 am.  It was a bumpy ride.  We caught the subway (metro) at the Chapultepec stop in Chapultepec park and rode it to the Merced.  I don't even have words to describe the Merced.  It is about 3 square blocks of a huge market.  Designed for the Mexican people, not tourists.  There are dozens of shoe stores, clothing stores, kitchen appliances, food, artificial flowers and anything else you could think of.  The female manikins they use to advertise women's jeans are always turned around so you can see how your backside might look in the jeans.  I haven't seen that yet in the US.  Somehow it makes some sense.  We thought we had found Angie a shirt - one of a baby unzipping the belly and looking out, but it was too small.  We hopped on the subway and went to the Zocolo - the main square of Mexico City.  It has the metropolitan cathedral and the main government buildings.  We got on the tour of the bell towers (hundreds of steps to climb to get on top of the cathedral) and left mom behind due to her back.  She sat inside the cathedral and got a reference of someone who wanted to hear about the church (way to go missionary gramma.)  We walked down the pedestrian walkway to the Latin-American tower and Sanborn's house of blue tiles.  We had lunch at Sanborn's and took the tour up to the top of the LA tower.  We caught the Metro at the Bellas Artes stop and found our way back to Chapultepec park where we caught a bus back to our house.  We walked up into the pueblito (poor area near our house) where I dropped off a suit for cleaning and Jeff bought a couple of DVD's for his kids.  We got home and decided to take Jeff and Rachel to the Carlos Slim museum by Costco - dropped them off and went to Costco to get some milk, etc.  they promptly walked over (the museum closed early) and we shopped and drove back home.  Played some games and went to bed.

Hanging out in the subway!

Life is fun here in Mexico!

Sunday Feb 28 -
We got up early to go to the English speaking ward that meets in our building since we needed to travel to the airport when our sacrament meeting started.  We ran into the Whiteheads doing the same - they were taking Sister Whitehead up to St. George to get surgery on her hip Monday.  New rules require the mission president to be present when his wife has surgery so he left Sunday and returned Wednesday.  We walked home and finished packing.  We drove to the airport to check them in 2 hrs early per protocol and had breakfast for lunch at a  restaurant at the airport. Both Rachel and Jeff had a little bit of squiggly stomaches but nothing too serious.   Rachel and Jeff went home on the same flight as the Whiteheads and we went home to recuperate.  The Andersons had us over for dinner and then we face timed our family and went to bed exhausted.

Sad pic - I don't know why they have to leave!

Having a little breakfast/lunch at Wings before they take off!
Thanks so much Jeff & Rachel for the visit!
It was very fun to have you here!
See you in 9 weeks!!!
