SPEAKING, TRUTH LIVING, AND TRUTH LOVING."

I have been so happy to just be home today. In fact I was so happy to be here doing my thing that I forgot my Spanish class. Oh well! Better luck next time. In the afternoon we took a walk up the Pueblito that is around the corner from us. I think we walked at least a mile so that's good. I would love to take pics of the area, but I don't want to offend anyone so I will have to figure out something. That is what I like to take pics of the most - every day living of the Mexican people. FHE was boring sorry to say! Elder Munoz who doesn't speak English (which is OK) but he gave a lesson on the history of a small part of Veracruz. I need something spiritual or uplifting, not history of little parts of Mexico! Oh well! It is always fun to be together so it worked out great!

Now we only have 3 days until our little baby boy ( Scot & Katie's actually) comes to our family! I am feeling quite sad this week that I am missing holding this new little one. I will have to talk to him on FaceTime so he can recognize my voice. He will be 8 months old before I get to hold him - practically a toddler!!! Today was another nice day. We had to go to the Temple clinic to see sick missionaries since the other doctor couldn't make it today. The Temple open house is still going on. There weren't very many people milling around today. We got to visit with the Smiths for a minute before we took a missionary to Dr. Medina for a procedure. It started to rain just as we left the temple so we had a long, slow trip home! It took us 1 hour and 10 minutes to get home! The rain is very nice to have in the afternoons just not when you're driving in it!!
We had a quiet evening and hopefully all is well with the family!!!

Driving to the temple and this is what I ran into! An orange barrel that has been run over. I think it is guarding a huge hole that probably a car is in!! |
Wednesday, Sept 2nd
Today started out like usual. Quiet and mellow are the norm right now! We took Sister Anderson to get some yarn for her project. I am starting a new afghan and looked at colors, but couldn't decided on a color so I didn't buy anything. Late afternoon we invited the Griffins to go on an adventure to the merced. That is such a crazy place - I like to go there and walk around. So off we went over to Palmas to catch the bus, then down to the metro stop. We caught the metro and had to ride about 8 stops to the merced. You walk right into the merced when you get off the metro. The Griffins enjoyed the wild experience. We took a few pics, but pics don't do justice to the confusion there!
After our adventure we got back on the metro and rode 6 stops to the zone rosa where lots of restaurants are. We ate at Antons - Mexican food. It was just OK food. We have eaten there before with the Rices. The posole was good but the quesadilla wasn't very good. As we were eating it started to rain. By the time we were done it was raining pretty hard and we didn't take an umbrella. The Griffins had one so Sister Griffin and I used that and the guys got wet! We hurried back to the metro and got back to our stop. We had to run to the bus stop as it was pouring now, with tons of lightening and thundering. Of course, for the first time we have seen, there was no Palmas bus there. We finally got on a Techamachalco bus (which is our neighborhood) and got a ride home. It took us a long time to get home due to the pouring rain! We weren't sure where to get off the bus, and the people on the bus were yelling for us to get off because the bus was supposedly going up the hill past where we wanted to go. We jumped off the bus and ran to a blockbuster store nearby. The rain was dumping down and we didn't know how we were ever getting back to our place! Finally I told Greg to take the umbrella and run home and get the car to come get us! He did that and nearly drowned.
In one spot in the road the water was up to his knees. Crazy! The traffic was all stopped because the roads were flooded with water up to the middle of the doors on the cars. People wouldn't drive through the lakes that were forming. No one was moving! Also, the roof was leaking in the blockbuster so we started helping them move their racks with movies on them that were getting water on them. There was water all over the floor and dripping from everywhere in the store! Yikes!!!
After about a half hour the rain stopped. We called Greg and found out he was very stuck in traffic. We decided to try to walk home - it really wasn't very far. We ran through the rivers and lakes and stayed on the other side of the street than Greg had walked up. That side of the street was totally flooded and cars were just sitting in the water. Water was pouring off the big buildings and off everything else. It was quite a scene. It was 9 pm so the pics didn't turn out in the dark very well. We got back to our place and Greg found another way back, but he had to dodge big rocks and who knows what else that was in the water. I heard a house washing down the road, but didn't see it. This whole time the lightening and thunder was blasting around us! Good times!! I just know that next time we try to call the Griffins for anything they are not going to answer! I guess I don't blame them!
I am not sure if Greg's shoes will ever dry out! We knew we were in trouble when we were on the bus and it was making a wake as we went across a bridge that doesn't have a drain for the water!
That was quite the adventure!

Thursday, Sept 3rd
We are still trying to recover from last night! We heard the storm last night was the biggest in 50 years. That is saying something for down here! And we got to experience it first hand! Bienvenido Mexico!!! Most of the day went along great. In the late afternoon Sister Rice wanted to show us a new place to buy yarn down by Costco. The three of us took off in the car to go find this place. The Rices have walked to this place before, but never driven. So as you can imagine the traffic was horrific and it took us over an hour to get there. Also, it started pouring rain again so when we got close to the place Sister Rice and I got our umbrellas out and ran for it! We got some yarn and got back to the car with only a slight soaking!!! I have never seen it rain like this before!! Then we tried to get back home. The whole round trip took us 2 1/2 hours and we didn't even go that far. We were happy we didn't walk cause of the rain but we would have been back home and had dinner and done 3 other things in the same amount of time!!! I did get started on my new project so we will see how things go with that. We talked to Scot and Katie and the kids tonight. Tomorrow is the big day! The baby is coming tomorrow. Katie is scheduled for a c-section at noon! Exciting for all of them, sad for me😩 cause I don't get to hold the new little guy! He will be 8 months old by the time I get home! Life is so hard sometimes! The kids are very excited. They were showing us some of the new clothes they have for the baby and his room and car seat, etc. Katie is ready for sure!!
